“Civilized” Refugees

To those who think their privileges entitle them to sit in the comfort of their homes, to watch TV and eat popcorn, then arrogantly adjudicate who is considered a “civilized” refugee and who is not, I say: Being privileged does not make you “civilized”. Being a refugee does not make a person less human especially if they “don’t look like you”. No one intentionally chooses to become a refugee. Just ask any of them, those you consider “civilized” or those you deemed “uncivilized”.
Get educated first about the plights of refugees before voicing your unsolicited xenophobic opinions.
May you never be in their shoes. May you never experience the terror of running with your kids to the unknown. May you never be lectured about your “skin color” and “brown eyes” . And may you never, ever be dehumanized or accused of being “uncivilized” for fleeing a “civilized” war that destroyed your country and was bound to kill your family-
