Beirut Blast

To many, August 4, 2020 might be just a date on an old calendar. But in my hometown Beirut, August 4, was a turning point, an apocalyptic moment, an open scar…

When a giant cloud of evil dust,
engulfed “the pearl of the Mediterranean”,
and shattered the heart of Beirut,
the city stopped breathing…
Time was forever altered…
August 4, 2020
was the day that killed a nation..

In every eye,
a tear remained,
A poignant trace,
of the crime of the century..
A constant reminder of
the unwavering voices
of those who lost loved ones..
a child,
a spouse,
a parent,
a friend..
An unutterable grief
congealed in a tireless resolution,
that justice must be served!

Here comes another August 4,
oh dear Beirut!
We still see your scars,
and feel ours…
But every single day,
We hold you close,
In our thoughts,
In our hearts,
and our prayers..
May you shed your bruised skin,
and break free from your cruel Masters..
May you rise up again,
under the lights of liberty
and the glaring power
of uncolored justice…

Until then, stay strong, Beirut!
